THEResearch

Most research tells you what people say. Some tells you how they feel. We go one layer further, to the needs and cultural patterns driving both, and track how they change over time.

The result is a clearer, more human picture of your market: what matters to people, what is shifting, what is behind the shift, and where you can meaningfully connect. That tells you what will make people buy, so your budget goes where it converts.

Layer 1 · Sentiment

What people say

Reviews, captions, comments and conversation at scale. Positive, negative, neutral.

Layer 2 · Emotion

How they feel

Root and complex emotional states: relief, ambivalence, awe, bittersweet acceptance.

Layer 3 · Psychographic

Why it matters to them

The underlying need each emotion signals, the identity it expresses, and the cultural meaning around it.

Our methodology is complex.
The output isn't.

THEServices

Three stages that build on each other. Start with the research alone, or let us carry it all the way through to what your audience sees and buys.

One piece of research. Every asset built to sell.

A fair-trade wholesale brand supplies natural grocery and specialty stores with ethically made eco goods, from natural-fibre brushes to hand-felted wool and upcycled textiles. Every product creates good jobs for artisans across South Asia. But retail buyers feared dead stock, and shoppers assumed eco meant low quality. We found out why, then built the brand, the plan and the content to get the range stocked, sold and reordered.

People didn't want to see the property. They wanted to know how it would feel.

The question wasn't simply what guests enjoyed, but why certain experiences stayed with them long after they left. We analysed the language, emotions and motivations of 75,000 individuals across selected markets, then turned those insights into an emotionally led creative approach. The campaign spoke to how a stay would feel, not just what it offered.

The brand films were shot alongside stills and cut into vertical and short formats. Unused footage from the hero films became four months of scheduled email and social content, stretching the gap between major shoots.

Research at a glance

Memory starts early

Some experiences begin becoming memories before they're over.

Anticipation is part of the experience

The emotional journey begins long before arrival.

Sadness can signal meaning

The emotions around departure can deepen attachment rather than diminish it.

Not everything memorable is happy

Longing, melancholy and reflection can be part of a meaningful experience.

People don't take the experience home

They take away what it made them feel.

The insight behind the brand filmsA landscape, room or treatment may create the conditions for an emotional response, but the lasting value lies in what the person felt, understood or carried away.

The emotional notes the campaign was built around

Arrival
Yearning · Rebellious joy

The anticipation of entering somewhere new, with comfort and belonging beginning to take shape.

Natural beauty
Awe · Elation · Redemptive nostalgia

The landscape shifts the experience from seeing somewhere beautiful to feeling connected to something larger.

Local & cultural life
Redemptive nostalgia · Melancholy

Connection and authenticity emerge, alongside the poignancy of experiencing somewhere that is not entirely yours.

Wellness & renewal
Sacred awe · Empowered defiance · Contentment

Wellness becomes less about treatment and more about feeling restored, capable and changed.

Departure
Sweet sorrow · Melancholy · Elation

Leaving introduces a sense of loss, but that loss can be part of what makes the experience memorable.

Night
Bittersweet reflection · Anxiety · Resilient sorrow

As the day quietens, the experience becomes more introspective and begins to turn into memory.

Coffee as a language of identity

A multi-million-dollar specialty roaster and café business wanted to take its expertise into ready-to-drink coffee. We decoded what coffee signals across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and who to speak to.

  • Identity, not a drink. Women use café culture to express agency and visibility; men use coffee as a ritual of discipline and reset.
  • Sameness is the problem. Cafés blur together and ready-to-drink feels formulaic. The appetite is for authenticity.
  • Global amplifies local. Coffee bridges global aspiration and heritage rather than replacing it.
  • The outcome. A new ready-to-drink range, positioned to lead an emerging market on ritual, connoisseurship and local cues.

Why farmers stop trusting the systems built to help them

We mapped how farmers experience risk, trust institutions and make decisions when livelihoods and animals are at stake.

  • Security, not ideology, divides farmers. Financial security decides openness to change.
  • Trust follows familiarity. Peers, para-vets and pharmacists are trusted above formal expertise.
  • Dignity first. Anything implying incompetence triggers disengagement.
  • The outcome. +38% market penetration above target, by leading with prevention and reaching farmers where they already search.
Any system designed to support farmers must first acknowledge their emotional reality.

Identified a negative brand association created by the organisation's role in treating animals at the end of their lives, revealing an opportunity to reposition communication around earlier intervention and preventative care.

YouTube identified as a new channel. Farmers were using it as a self-service search tool, opening a new communication route and a stronger presence ahead of competing providers.
